W3 - Websites That Changed The Internet World

There are millions of websites out there. Many of them are unique, either in small ways or in large ones. But the individual impact of any particular site on the overall Internet is generally negligible, if there’s any impact at all.

Not so with the fifteen sites here. These sites changed the Internet, mostly for good, in substantial ways. Included here is everything from Geocities (which could probably be blamed entirely, either directly or indirectly, for every ugly web design “trend” that’s ever been) to Wikipedia (which has made information almost universally accessible) to Google (which has changed or influenced virtually everything online).

1. Wikipedia

Changed the way we find information. Before Wikipedia, most online encyclopedias were either sorely lacking in information, or required you to have a paid subscription to access their content. Wikipedia changed all that by not only allowing anyone to view the content for free, but also by allowing individual users to review and update content, making it more complete and accurate overall. Wikipedia also brought crowdsourcing and user-generated content to the mainstream online, making both much more viable and valuable.

2. Amazon.com

Changed the way we shop. Prior to Amazon.com, online shopping wasn’t much different than shopping out of a mail-order catalog, except it wasn’t nearly as popular. While Amazon started out selling just books and related items, it has expanded to sell virtually anything you can think of, either directly or through partner sites large and small. Amazon also made free shipping a standard on orders over a certain dollar value, which has impacted the shipping rates and policies of many other online retailers.

3. Hotmail

Changed the way we use email. Before Hotmail came along, email was basically tethered to a single computer. When you checked your email, it was pulled and deleted from the remote server, meaning the only place you could view it was at your computer. Need an email at home that you received at work? Too bad. There was no way to access it unless you went back to the office. Hotmail changed all that by providing webmail that could be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection. Now, web-based email is widely used and provided by a huge variety of providers. Even though Hotmail is no longer the primary provider of webmail (and is now owned by Microsoft), they were still pioneers in the technology.

4. Facebook

Changed the way friends connected. While Facebook wasn’t the first social network, it has definitely become the most popular and has really changed the way friends interact with one another. Sure, people use FB to talk online, but they’re also increasingly using it as a way to plan get-togethers offline. They’re using it to follow and interact with their favorite bands, actors, and other personalities. People use it to keep in touch with business contacts, friends, family, and acquaintances. Facebook has made social networking mainstream, across a variety of demographics and virtually worldwide.

5. Project Gutenberg

Changed the way we read. Project Gutenberg has a much longer history than most people realize. They created the first ebooks, and gave them away for free. You can now read virtually every major book in the public domain, sometimes in multiple languages on their site. Without the pioneering steps the founders of Project Gutenberg took, ebooks would not be where they are today.

6. Twitter

Changed the way we communicate. Twitter has made one of the biggest impacts on the Internet in recent memory. The idea that 140-character messages, broadcast publicly (for the most part), would change the way people communicate with one another would have been hard to believe ten years ago. But Twitter has become not just a powerhouse in the way individual communicate with one another, but also in the way businesses communicate with their customers. Complaining about poor customer service on Twitter can often result in almost instant messages from the company in question, and often results in a satisfactory resolution. Twitter has also made celebrities more accessible, with hundreds of celebs now using the service to interact with their fans.

7. Pandora

Changed the way we find new music. Before Pandora, if you wanted to listen to music online, you usually turned to a streaming radio station with pre-programmed content. Sure, you might get lucky and find a station that had mostly music you liked, but maybe it wasn’t diverse enough, or it still kept playing that one song you HATED. Pandora changed all that. Now, you can program your own radio station by just entering the name or a song or artist and then giving the thumbs up or down to music played. With a minimal amount of user input, Pandora has gotten surprisingly good at creating playlists that reflect one’s musical taste. The bonus is that songs or artists you might not have heard of are often thrown into the mix, based on what you already like.

8. Apple

Made minimalist web design cool. Apple had one of the first corporate websites designed with a minimalist aesthetic. As far back as the late 90s, Apple was starting to show a more minimalist take on web design than many other corporate sites, and by early 2000, they’d adopted the white and gray color scheme and top navigation they still employ today.

9. YouTube

Changed entertainment. Before YouTube, there weren’t many options if you wanted to watch a video online. You could sometimes find a video here or there, but with bandwidth costs, they were few and far between. Website owners just didn’t want to pay the extra costs associated with video content. Then YouTube came along and made it free to post any video you wanted (as long as it wasn’t copyrighted or over ten minutes long). Web users now had a centralized place to go to watch video online. And because of YouTube’s pioneering effort, online video is now enjoyed by millions every day.

10. Craigslist

Changed classifieds. Online classified sites used to be nearly unusable. Between the huge number of spam postings and the fact there were few if any local listings in most areas, there wasn’t much point in using them. But then Craigslist caught on and suddenly there was an online classifieds site that rivaled most local newspaper classifieds. Now you can use Craigslist to find almost anything, no matter where you live.

11. The Drudge Report

Changed the stature of online news. When the Monica Lewinsky/President Clinton story broke in 1998, it wasn’t a mainstream news source that first reported it. Instead, The Drudge Report held those honors, forever changing the standing of online news sources. Now, online news sources break stories on a regular basis, and are considered by most to be just as reliable as television or print news sources.

12. GeoCities

Made the web more accessible. In the early days of the Internet, the only people online (for the most part) were scientists, academics, and those involved in technology. It wasn’t a very exciting place. Then came GeoCities, and suddenly anyone could set up their own webpage for free. Sure, GeoCities spawned a legion of horrifically ugly websites, but it also got a lot of regular people involved in the Internet for the first time and was likely the first design experience of many early web designers.

13. Digg

Changed the way we find and share news. Digg was originally set up as an experiment, but it has completely changed the way many people find news online. The idea of users determining which news was important, relevant, and interesting rather than editors or executives at big news organizations was revolutionary. Now, user-generated news sites are all over the place, both for mainstream news and for individual industries and niches.

14. LiveJournal

Hooked millions on blogging. Blogging wasn’t invented by LiveJournal, but they were the first site to offer free blogs to their members. Millions now use LiveJournal, and tens of millions more blog elsewhere, either through other blog hosts or on their own websites. If it weren’t for LiveJournal and similar free blogs hosts that came later, blogging might not have caught on as the global phenomenon it has become.

15. Google

Changed everything. This one might seem a bit dramatic, but it really is true. Google has invaded virtually every aspect of the Internet. No matter what you do online, you probably interact with one Google service or another multiple times every day. And most people use at least one Google product or service one a regular basis personally. Whether it’s a Blogger blog, a Picasa photo album, a Google search, or even a YouTube video (or any of the dozens of other services Google owns), Google-controlled sites are everywhere.

W3-KP2 Students

Students have their own loans to persue their studies. But sometimes, their loans will withdrawn because of their examination result or bad disciplines. So,do you think we should give monetary incentives to the KP2 students to motivate them to get better grades? My answer is no!It is because, they will be wasting time, the money is not used  for studies and they will not get the values.

They will wasting more their time.It is because, when they get the money, they will think to have fun, supposedly they want to release their tension on studies. When they always hang out with friends to have fun, they will lose their times for refresh back their study lesson. So,when KP2 students get more money,it will make they wasting more their times and do not study.

The money is not used for studies. It is normal for some students. Before get their allowance money, they will dream many things to buy.Where their get the money? From the allowance. So,if we give more money to KP2 students, possibility for them to go shopping is high. The money is not used for buy books and necessary in studies. So,the money is spend on the wrong way and they will not have more materials to study.

They will not get the values.Sometimes, students need some hard time to make them strong. They will learn from their hard time. They will be more grateful and study with hard. When their money is withdrawn when get the KP2,they will learn from that. They will try harder to improve their result to get back the money. If we still give money to them, they will be not serious. They assume, students who get good results and bad results still get the money. So,for what they need to study hard? Then, not get the money will motivate them.

Conclusion,we should not give the monetary incentives to KP2 students because it will give more bads than goods. They need to feel hard to make their more matured in their life.

W2 - 5 Mistakes That May Get Your Resume Trashed

In the current situation, it is very necessary for people to know the mistakes than can cost them an interview call. In an article published on Rediff, Kshpira Singh highlighted the five most common errors. These are outlined below:

1.A cluttered CV

CVs where people simply put all possible information and expect recruiters to scroll through them to find out relevant details. The only destiny these CVs have is getting the 'delete' key pressed and landing up in the trash bins.
HR people get hundreds of applications for a single position. They don't have the time to sift through your CV and see if each candidate suits their purpose. So, it is your job to make your CV as user-friendly, so that they can find the information they are looking for in a single glance. More after the break..
2.Grammatical and spelling mistakes

Grammatical errors and spelling mistakes not only look shabby, but they reveal a lot about one?s attitude. If a HR manager receives a business proposal with grammar and spelling mistakes, the first thing he would think is, "Is this person really serious about the business?"
Similarly, a CV with grammatical errors and spelling mistakes will suggest that he does not care enough for this opportunity, you are lazy and you do not have an eye for detail. Nobody wants to hire an employee with any of these characteristics. So it's a given that such CVs are headed to the rejected pile.

3.Past failures and/or health problems
Your CV is not the place for you to talk about past failures or health problems, so keep them off paper. Some people may argue that almost everybody has the sense not to write about failures and health problems on CVs and while I agree with them, it's been known to happen.
So this pointer is for those who do commit this mistake. Take a look at your CV again and if you have addressed any of these problems directly or indirectly, it is wise to edit them out.

4.Current or expected CTC
Many people have developed the habit of writing about their current salary or expected salary on a CV, as they assume that all prospective employers are going to ask about it, or that most job notifications require it. It is advised not to mention it on the CV, unless specifically asked to do so.

5.Vague/unclear contact details
Picture this situation -- you have a menu card from a nearby restaurant in front of you. You like the dishes they serve and the price is right too. You are impressed by the fact that they deliver within 10 minutes. You pick up the phone to make a call, but are not able to find the telephone number on the menu card. You look a second time, but you are still not able to find it. You're hungry and there's another menu card from another restaurant right in front of you, which looks equally good.

What will you do? Won't you immediately place an order with the restaurant that offers a number and ask them to send the food ASAP? Later, you may realise that there was a phone number on the first menu card, hidden somewhere in a corner, but the opportunity is gone now. You may land up in a similar situation if your contact details are not clear or not easy to find for employers. Some other things to note here are:

a) Provide a phone number where potential employers can talk to you directly and don't have to go through your parents or friends.
b) Keep the e-mail addresses formal - mostly a combination of your first and last name.
c) Keep the e-mail address small and uncomplicated to avoid any typing mistakes if employers decide to contact you online.

Writing a CV is not a difficult task. The best person to do it is you. The only thing you need is to analyse your candidature properly and present it well. You will need to draft and re-draft your CV many times before you are finally happy with it.

W2 - If I have the power to rule the world, I would......

ASSALAMUALAIKUM and HELLO everybody.

First of all, we would like to change the tittle, from "IF I HAVE THE POWER TO RULE THE WORLD, I WOULD..." to "IF WE HAVE THE POWER TO THE WORLD, WE WOULD..." . This is because this blog is our blog, neither Myra nor Kimie.

If we have the power to rule world, we would like to :

1. change man perspective to woman. They (man) always think that we (woman) cannot do a man job. They already set in their mind that "WOMAN IS A WEAK PERSON". Actually, that's not really what they set in mind. They feel challenged actually. So why they not try to see a wider perspective? So we can help each other to develop our country together. We will use the power to cut off the crap thing that woman cannot do man job.

2. give priority to woman. When there is one couple who go for date, 95% of man will use "Lady First" concept. So why don't we do a campaign that use that concept especially in public transport. For an example, give priority to woman whose pregnant to have a sit, woman who bring their kid together. It would be so nicely gentle when you (man) to do that. :D

3. make the SPM's  questions (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) not so tough. From our view, SPM's questions are so tough compared to when we sit exam in University. This is the main reason why students get so stressful with study. How they get away from the stressful zone? They wasting their time and money by hang out with friends without any direction. Some of the students already give up with their study and they decide to quit from school and start working and live independent. So why not we use our power to make an educational as a fun thing to do?

4. we still thinking . . . .

A subordinates will bow and greet you.”hello, sir”.”good morning ,miss”.While you reply their greet and keep on walking.(walk with pride and at the same time controlling your step).
Don’t you think the air is very fresh, cool like you are in Gold Cost as if you are walking on a red carpet. Please imagine it right now! haha

W1 - Shoes vs Pain

Nowadays, as we can see, either girls or boys have a desire to look beautiful, handsome and awesome. Everybody wants to look hot, so they can attract each other. It’s normal for teenager right now. But, at first, if you want to be fashion star like HANA TAJIMA, YUNALIS (omg, we really adored them so much **screaming out loud), you need to know what to be and how to be. First and foremost, we must have knowledge about a fashion from top to toe. Maybe you do not much about fashion, it is okay. There are a lot of tutorial you can read from other blog besides, they also open an online boutique with reasonable price. BUT! We hope so that you are not one of fashion disaster. God, they are almost giving us heart attack.

So many people out side there so excited when they choose clothes or pants when they got shopping!! This phenomenon you can see when there is a BIG SALE!! Some of them so many clumsy when choosing, fortunately, they are so BRILLIANT how to mix and match. Unfortunately, they do not know how to choose a right shoes that suitable for them. Some of the shoes will ‘eat’ you foot. Almost of them, “whuaa, this shoe is match with my dress, and I want to buy it right now!! Hello, 50% babe, what you waiting for?

So for this post, we want to share some knowledge about shoes, shoes and shoes. :)
Some might do not know that certain types of shoes can make us a lot of pain such as platform shoes. Platform shoes are shoes that have big and flat soles. The height of behind part of these shoes can reach until 20 cm or 8 inch. While the front part of the shoes can reach until 2 inch.
gadget shoes?haha :)

These shoes have a weight that 2 to 3 times than usual shoes that you wear. It will burden your leg and make your footsteps not robust. Your knee has a risk to dislocate besides your muscle at the back part of your leg can get sprain.

Another type of shoes that also can give you a lot of pain is high heel shoes. yeah, high heel is very close to woman, right? It will make you feel, "how tall I am!" or “oh my God, I feel so elegant  than the other girls”. But wait! you need to know the fact that it can make your heel feel pain besides it also can affect your  toe get defect and nerve blockage that can cause pain. While the friction is continued between your feet with tight shoes, it can cause corn and calluses.
cool right?

So ask yourself, is it worthy to bear the pain and other physical problems that are not suppose to look after? There a lot a better ways to feel comfortable than fashionable. Your health will benefit, as well as your money.
